I'll show you mine....

I have opened etc3's source: http://etc.wharton.upenn.edu:8080/Etc3beta/Source.jsp. This is probably a big deal: I'm pretty sure there are few digital works of this size so exposed.

Etc3 is pretty serious code--the current status of seven years of serious research into aesthetic text generation. And, alas, far from complete. There are many things to be done to get this monstrosity to where I think it should be. But I'm not sure I'm the guy to do it. And so I give it to you.

I am releasing the source as open-domain work. The only restriction I'm imposing is that you not copyright it. Do anything you want, right up to and including selling it or incorporating it into a commercial product. (I will always be partial to folks whose coding skills have to be good enough for them to make a living exercising them--unlike, say, digital artists, whose currency is stature, not technical capability, and whose code shows it. The true measure of the value of a skill is whether someone will pay for it--and how much.)

I'll be posting some thoughts about the code, soon I hope.

Enjoy...
